This can result if the default fixed-width font on the browser is not actually fixed-width.
Solution:
Have the student go to their font settings page as described here. Font settings are under “Settings”, “Appearance”, “Customize Fonts”
Then have the student change the font in the fixed-width section to one that is actually fixed-width as described here. An example of a fixed-width font is “courier”
